Grove is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Grove score an Experience on his behavior assessment (safer)

Summary (1):: Grove is uncomfortable in a group session. He attempts to solicit play, but offers a series of corrections when the other dog reciprocates his solicitations. He spends the rest of the session exploring the pens with a tense body. According to Grove’s previous owner, Grove growls and snaps at other dogs on the leash and appears to be reactive. Due to his past behavior with other dogs, as well as his current behavior in Group, the Behavior Department recommends that Grove be the only resident dog at the time. 10/27: When off leash at the Care Center, Grove ignores the greeter, and explores the pens and its smells. He eventually greets her, with a soft but tall posture. He is sexually motivated and engages in cooperative play; while displaying raised hackles. He grumbles at the novel female dog when she paw slaps him and immediately moves away after shaking off (stress reliever) 10/28: Grove anxiously enters the pen. He briefly engages in running chase play, before correcting the novel female for body contact. He spends the rest of the session attempting to exit the pens. 11/04: In a group of calm male and female dogs, Grove is soft and social as he wanders the pens keeping to himself. He greets the male dog with a soft body, but begins to frantically sniff and follow him. He listens to the handlers corrections and goes off to explore the pens and seek handler’s attention.

Date of intake:: 10/26/2017

Summary:: Playful,and friendly

Date of initial:: 10/27/2017

Summary:: Energetic, friendly allows handling

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)

Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to potential food guarding behavior. Grover gave an appropriate warning of his discomfort (becomes stiff) but we feel that young children may not know to respect this warning. Older, dog savvy children can be considered as long as the adults feel confident that Grove can be left alone while eating so he does not need to escalate to a growl. Behavior modification for food guarding behavior can be found at aspcapro.org. Single-pet home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Mia has shown during playgroup, we feel that Mia should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that she be socialized in a more controlled setting until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Mia associate dogs with things she enjoys like toys or treats.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding

Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: Potential resource guarding was noted in the care center as Grove was observed to become stiff when engaged with item and at time. For this reason we advise against ever removing items from Grove’s possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment.

    Grove needs comments. Please share and pledge. He’s here through no fault of his own. Landlord won’t allow pets. So now he’s scheduled to die tomorrow because of kennel cold. Described as friendly with strangers, lived with 2 small kids (Age 1 and 9months), live nicely with 2 cats, but not so with other dogs. He enjoys being around the family. He likes to cuddle and sleeps in the owner’s bed. He knows the command sit, stay and come. Needs a loving, understanding and patient owner who will help him polish up on doggie basics. Please share. Give this boy chance to have a loving, permanent home.

    Grove was given up because of landlord issues..Not because of behavior issues..He is said to be friendly around strangers, and will jump up to lick them..Around children..He wags his tail, affectionate and gentle..Relaxed around cats..Around dogs ..Grove is reactive..barks, and growls..He is housetrained..No resourse guarding or bite history..He allows food bowl to be touched, and things to be removed from his mouthHe allows baths, but not his nails trimmed..When left alone for 7 hours Grove sometimes chews on pillows, and may have an accident..Owner wants adopter to know Grove is high energy playful, likes to cuddle,loves to be around the family, and sleeps in the owners bed..ACC assessments summarys say Grove is playful friendly energenic. allows handling….During his group assessment with other dogs, he wasn’t comfortable..He will solicit play, but when another dog reciprocates, he offers corrections..He begins to get tense, and walks the pen..Owner did say Grove is reactive to other dogs…Now what doesn’t make no sense ACC says he may have potential guarding..WHY?? Because he did not want to let go of his toy? Groves owner said he allows thing to be taken from his mouth, has no guarding issues with food, but reading through his notes Grove was being referred to as .Mia..Are they talking about Mia food guarding..ACC messes up again.. ..Grove it seems enjoys being around humans rather than other dogs..Watch his video..He is such a sweet boy..Please adopt this black beauty, and give him a home for the holidays..If you cannot commit long term or like to see if you are a fit with grove foster Grove at no cost to you, and save Groves life..Share and find Grove hs new family..Pledging gets the rescue to notice Grove and pays for his care..Please don’t let ACC take Grove’s precious life away today

    17 dogs???!!!??? Are you serious NYCACC??? How deranged are you people??? You claim you want to save dogs, but this huge list doesn’t show that. How about STOP subjecting all these dogs to fricking kennel cough so you can kill them because they are sick. Clean your filthy facilities!!! Care Center, ha! ?
    ALL great dogs tonight! Let’s not waste handsome Grove’s second chance. This baby needs to be in a safe, loving environment tomorrow! Let’s do what we can and hope the 300 rescues step up. #SaveGROVE ???
