A volunteer writes: I don’t know if Griffey was named for the Seattle Mariners Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., but I do know that Griffey has been placed in my personal Hall of Fame. What a great dog! Breathtaking in his gorgeous rust color coat, he’s super quiet in his kennel, goes potty the moment we’re outside and has lovely leash manners, sniffing all the good scents on our way to the park. A bit camera-shy it’s hard to capture a good photo of Griffey, so you’ll need to come see for yourself, or just take my word for it. His tail wags when I pet him, and after he warms up to me he loves to crawl on my lap, or that part of him that will fit, and give me sweet kisses. He’s the kind of companion you’ll find yourself having pithy conversations with: Trump or Clinton? How do you feel about gun control? Which is better, Animal Planet or America’s Got Talent? Or perhaps lighter conversation such as ‘what shall we have for dinner’? and so on…. Griffey didn’t like either of my treats, will sit with a light tap on his tusch, and is so quiet, calm and easy that I wish I could have spent the entire afternoon with him. A quiet listener, a charming companion, he will make you feel like there is no one on the planet more important than you. Come meet my Hall of Famer and make him yours.
08/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Griffey pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Griffey had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He was not interested in toys. Griffey did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
08/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Griffey has mostly displayed sexually motivated behaviors when engaging with female dogs off leash (he has not yet been introduced to a male). However, he may engage in some play if solicited. He arrived to the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing him into a home with other dogs. 8/3: When off leash with other dogs, Griffey is sexually motiovated, and engages in play intending to mount. 8/4: Griffey greets and sniffs, then keeps to himself. 8/5 update: Griffey is sexually motivated, persistently attempting to mount despite the helper dog walking away from him.
