05/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
5/4/16 18:20 Basic Information Gotti is an approximately 3 year male Am Pit bull mix. He is being surrendered because the owner is moving and can’t t take Gotti with her. He was given to the owner as a gift by a friend and he has not been taken to a vet in over two years. Socialization Around strangers, Gotti is very shy around new people and does know and prefers not interact with them. He has lived a household with children between the ages of 4 year old to 7 years old, he is relaxed and playful with them and other adults (that he knows) in the home. He has never lived with other dog and when outside she barks at other dogs. The owner has never had cats so the owner does not know how Gotti is around them. The owner states that Gotti has never bite another person or animal before. Behavior Diesel is not bothered when the owner take his food bowl, treat, or toy away, by thunder storms or fireworks. When an unfamiliar person approaches the home or a family member he will growl and bark and them (sometimes he might lung at them). Gotti does not mind being bathed but has never had his nails trimmed. For a new family to know The owner describes Gotti as playful and shy with a high activity level Gotti’s favorite activity is to play tug of war with the owner. Around the house, he follows everyone around and prefers to be in the same room as the rest of the family. He has toys and loves to play with Balls and rope toys. He sleeps mostly indoors with on a dog bed on the floor of the bedroom room. Gotti was being fed name brand dry dog food 2 times a day. Gotti is house trained, and goes to the bathroom on grass outside the house. When left alone Gotti l is well behaved in the home. Gotti also knows the commands for “sit” and “put it”. For exercise Gotti is to walks outside twice a day. Behavior during the intake During the intake, Gotti was tenses with stiff body. The owner helped us scan (negative), photographed, collar and placed the dog in the kennel.
05/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: If that smile doesn’t melt your heart I don’t know what would, low-riding Bulldog-mix Gotti has to be the cutest thing on four stocky little legs and I am head over heels in love! So fun, so friendly and so photogenic you couldn’t take a bad picture of him if you tried, he’s a real crowd-pleaser and draws chuckles and smiles wherever he goes. Gotti’s favorite pastimes include softly snarfling treats, playing fetch like a pro and snuggling with his people and while he reportedly tried to warn strangers away from his previous family, he’s been nothing but friendly toward his adoring volunteer fan club here at the Care Center. One of MY new favorite pastimes is snuggling Gotti because when this chunky sweetheart gets his jowls massaged he actually snorts like a pig–it’s too funny! He’s lived in happy harmony with young children and seems chill with other big dogs we pass in the street but little dogs (and cats) are definitely not on his friend list so a strong harness and a home with no small critters are absolute musts if you’re considering adding gorgeous Gotti to your pack. Already well versed in ‘come’, ‘sit’ and ‘put it’ (drop it), he’s clearly a smart cookie and with the incentive of a tasty treat I bet he’d be keen to add even more commands to his repertoire. Gotti is ready and waiting to light up your life with his fun personality and sunshiny smile, come meet your new BFF today!
05/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gotti came to us as an owner surrender due to the owner’s current living situations. According to the owner Gotti is very shy around strangers and prefers not to interact with them. Gotti is playful with the children and adults that he lived with in the home but only because he knows them. The owner reported that Gotti will growl, bark and sometimes lunge at people who approach a family member or the home. Gotti pulled strongly on the leash during his relief walk and entered the behavior room with soft body language. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. During the sensitivity item Gotti became uncomfortable with stiff body language. He followed at the end of the leash on the tag interaction as well. He only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. We believe that Gotti will best in a home with an experienced owner and no young children. Look: 2. Dog holds gaze with hard eyes, body a bit tense. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. When off leash with other dogs, Gotti ignores solicitation from the female greeter, instead opting to sniff the pen.
05/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Gotti often greets politely, and has engaged in bouts of play with female dogs. He displays sexually motivated behaviors and at times does attempt to mount. He has not yet been introduced off leash to male dog while in our care. His previous owner cites “He has never lived with other dog and when outside she barks at other dogs.” Therefore, in-home behavior with dogs is unknown. The behavior departmetn recommends that Gotti should have a pre-adoption interaction before placement into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Gotti ignores solicitation from the female greeter, instead opting to sniff the pen. 5/6 update: Gotti engages in bursts of running play and spends his other time exploring the yard. 5/9 update: Gotti approaches and greets politely. He postures to mount, however does not follow through or persist. 5/10 update: Gotti engages in small bouts of play when solicited. He continues to display sexually motivated behavior, however responds well when corrected by the other dog. 5/11 update: Gotti greets politely and is tolerant when solicited but does not engage. 5/12 update: Gotti greets and sniffs, then roams. 5/13 update: Gotti is sexually motivated with one female but with others he is polite and appropriate. 5/14 update: Gotti is sexually motivated but takes correction then begins to engage briefly in play. 5/15 update: Gotti appears briefly sexually motiated- sniffs the rear of a female, licks, but does not follow through with attempting to mount. He keeps to himself after receiving minor correction.
