11/04/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This pretty little senior, although around 7 years old, has the energy and curiosity of a younger pup. A quiet and unassuming companion, she’s happy to sit down next to me and look around her, keeping track of her surroundings (and keeping her eye out for her new forever home). Goldfinger also loves going for walks and pulls a tiny bit on the leash, but is very responsive to her handler. She is an older lady and is a bit sensitive to touch (most likely because her skin is itchy and hasn’t been taken care of so well in the past), and sometimes startles easily. She prefers a slow and gentle touch and doesn’t like when other dogs get in her face. We think she would do best in a calm, quiet home– either as the only dog or with a dog who matches her energy, and without any small children. She likes to relax and she does tolerate other dogs, but doesn’t like them in her face and seems to prefer keeping to herself. Like everyone as they get older, Goldfinger is just looking for a comfy spot on the couch to call home and live out her twilight years. Please come and see her today!
10/27/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/27/2016 Look: 2. Dog’s holds gaze, lip lick Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, focused on exit, does not approach at end of game. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog head flips while pulling back paw. Flank squeeze 1: 3. Dog head flips Flank squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 2. Dog playfully engages, keeps a firm grip, body not stiff. Summary: Goldfinger appears to be sensitive to certain handling, paw and back end of body; may do best upon a slow/soft approach. PLAYGROUP: Goldfinger was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Goldfinger mostly keeps to herself when in a group of calm male and female dogs. She will greet the rear ends of the other dogs when they are distracted but will offer correction when they attempt to greet her face to face. The Behavior Department believes that Goldfinger would be most comfortable as the only dog in the home, however a dog-dog interaction can be conducted to assess Goldfinger’s comfort level. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/26/16 During her initial medical exam Goldfinger was tense but allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience _X_No young children (under 5) (Goldfinger appears to be sensitive to some forms of touch and may do best in a home without young children at this time; challenging movement/loud noises may present to be a challenge. Force-free, reward based training is recommended when introducing/exposing Goldfinger to new and unfamiliar situations.)
