05/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: All hail Goddess! If you’re looking for a worship-worthy pet you couldn’t ask for a more gorgeous, affectionate and charming companion than this lovely lady and if snuggling is your thing then she’s literally got you covered. Having just met her brother-from-another-mother, Romeo (A1072691), I was expecting high energy and rough-n-tumble playtime but Goddess seeks attention much more quietly, gently nuzzling onto my lap and kiss kiss kissing her way straight to my heart. She walks well on leash, seems to be house trained and keeps her den neat as a pin, a true little lady. In their former home Goddess and Romeo shared a bed, never guarded their food or toys and loved to spend time playing fetch with their owner and just as reported, both greet other dogs with wonderfully friendly good manners. I am totally in love with this ivory gem, so soft, sweet and snuggly that she’d be a wonderful addition to almost any home. Come meet her and I guarantee you’ll want to put Goddess on a pedestal too.
05/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Update: 5/11/16 Since Goddess’s last SAFER she was reported to mouth with moderate pressure when engaged in play with a volunteer. Due to this and Goddess’s previous behavior information of mouthing during the SAFER we believe that Goddess should go to a home with an experienced owner with no children. SAFER: 5/9/ Goddess came into our center along with another similarly sized dog as an owner surrender due to owner being hospitalized. It is reported Goddess also lived with a cat, behavior around children is unknown. Owner reports Goddess is not bothered if anyone touches her Food, Toys, Treats. Goddess is described as friendly, affectionate, and playful. Owner reports Goddess is housebroken. During intake, Goddess was relaxed with loose body, allowed all handling. She was friendly and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment room. Goddess jumped up to lick assessor’s face during Look item. She leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, mouth open, tail wagging. Goddess playfully ran along during Tag game, became overly aroused and playfully grabbed bottom of assessor’s pant leg lightly, but released right away when redirected and settled easily at end. She pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, mouthing assessor’s hand with no pressure. Goddess showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports she is playful and her favorite activity is fetch. While waiting for helper dog, Goddess mouthed the handler’s pant leg lightly, but released right away. She approached the helper dog with tail at spine level, ears back. The Behavior Team feels Goddess would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have any children. She would benefit from obedience classes to learn not to mouth pant legs. Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, grabs assessor’s pants leg lightly Squeeze 1/ 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral
05/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Goddess is anxious in the care center. She has briefly solicited but typically offers correction for mounting and barks to seek exit. She lived with a male dog (who engages in play appropriately) and the owner reports they got along well together. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before going into a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Goddess mostly keeps to herself, and displays anxious behaviors. She offers correction when mounted. 5/11 update: Goddess is initially uncomfortable, offering correction when sniffed from behind. She begins to solicit some play (both males and females) but only briefly as she will begin to bark at the gate and seek exit. 5/12 update: Goddess is uncomfortable and avoidant of interaction.
