04/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 4/21/17 Intact Male, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Gladiolus was friendly, loose and wiggly, he allowed all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 4/25/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Gladiolus was friendly and social towards the assessor, he showed no concerns. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Gladiolus displays soft body language when greeting a novel female dog. He is slightly sexually motivated, but when the female continually spins her rear end away from him he chooses to explore. Gladiolus is introduced to a male helper dog through the gate and immediately became stiff, gave a hard stare and barked. Due to this behavior a soft muzzle was placed on him before interaction off leash. Gladiolus briefly sniffs the other male’s genital area then leaps onto his back to mount him. The Behavior Department recommends that Gladilous be placed with female dogs that match his calm sociability. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/21/17: During his medical examination, Gladiolus did not like medical handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Gladiolus so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_Recommend no dog parks: Due to Gladiolus’ reactivity towards male dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that he only be socialized in a more controlled setting.
