04/28/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/28/16 09:32 BASIC INFO Gizmo is a 2 year old male APBT / American Staffordshire Terrier mix. His family moved out and left him with their super. They were unable to find housing that accepted Gizmo and could not return for him. The super cared him for nearly 1 month but was unable to keep him and brought him to ACC. SOCIALIZATION Gizmo is friendly/outgoing with new people. He stayed with a 10 year old child and was relaxed, tolerant, and affectionate with her. He plays somewhat rough with people (e.g. jumping up). He lived with 2 small male dogs in his previous home and was relaxed, tolerant, affectionate, and plays exuberantly with them. He chases squirrels. He’s never bit anyone. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Gizmo’s family describes him as friendly, playful, affectionate, excitable, and high energy. He stayed in the yard during the day and in the kitchen during the night. He was well-behaved while alone in his yard with an 8′ chain link fence. He’s housetrained, potties outside, and doesn’t have accidents. He ate dry and wet Alpo dog foods. He went for fast walks and pulls on his leash. INTAKE Gizmo had a loose, wiggly body, open mouth, and wagging tail. He moved around a lot, pulled on his leash, jumped up on us, and licked us. He sat when asked and took treats gently. He tried to jump on and lick us while we scanned (-) and collared him.
04/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Gizmo is a force field of affection, a madly-tail wagging mush ball who is anything but stingy with his kisses. He adores snuggling, hugging, kissing, and expressing his enthusiasm for the world and the people in it in any way he can think of. He was dear with the other dogs in the yard when we were spending time together. Gizmo’s effusive nature is so much fun to be around, and he would do wonderfully in a family that was looking for an energetic young boy where romps would be a daily part of his life. He is in need of leash training and is a strong, gorgeous boy, so it would be good–if you are planning on living in the city with him–to teach him how to contain his enthusiasm on the street. He’s gorgeous, he’s loving, he’s our lovely Gizmo, and we hope he will soon be yours!
04/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gizmo pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). Gizmo was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He did a lot of jumping up, mouthy (moderate) and body checking while playing tag. Gizmo took the toy with a soft body language. Gizmo is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. He shows a bit of concern during the tag interaction he became a bit over arousal and mouthy. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter no children who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Gizmo is mostly sexually motivated and persists attempting to mount despite handler interuption.
04/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Gizmo has only displayed persistantly sexually motivated behavior during off-leash interaction at this time (he is currently unaltered). He will also persist despite receivign correction from other dogs. At this time, the behavior department recommends allowing Gizmo time to decompress and acclimate in a new home as the only resident dog, before following up on his behavior around other dogs. He arrived into our care as a stray with no information citing history around dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Gizmo is mostly sexually motivated and persists attempting to mount despite handler interuption. 5/4 update: Gizmo ignores play solicitation, and instead attempts to mount the other dog (female). 5/5 update: Gizmo is persistantly sexually motivated despite receiving correction. 5/9 update: Gizmo attempts to mount the other dog (female) and chases after when she makes attempt to increase distance. 5/10 update: Gizmo continues persistantly atmempting to mount female dogs.
