07/13/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/13/15 18:01 Basic Information: Gio is a 8yr old male American Bull Dog/English Bull Dog that has no past or current medical issues according to the owner. Social Life & Personality: Gio comes from a home with children and there has always been issues periodically with agrression towards them. Ultimately the owner believes its due to jealousy. He will snap at the children when he feels all the attention is being applied to them. When these issues don’t apply he interacts with them just fine. Gio doesn’t get along with other dogs and will display aggressive like behavior towards them. He has growled and even tried to attack other dogs. The owner isn’t sure how he will respond in the presence of a cat due to never having one around for Gio to interact with. Gio is an indoor only dog that is house broken. Gio is described to be playful, excitable, and anxious with a very high activity level. Behavior Issues: Gio has issues when it comes to taking food out of the hand and be a bit mouthy when taking foo/d from the hand. The owner isn’t sure how he will respond to having his food bowl take/touched when taking his food away. However these issues don’t apply to toys. Gio takes well to grooming agents like recieving a bath, trimming of his nails, and the brushing of his coat. Gio is fearful of the blow dry or anything that sounds similar to one. For a New Family to Know: Gio doesn’t know any basic commands except to sit. He went for slow walks on a leash and this was done twice a day. Gio enjoys all sorts of dog toys and will play with just about anything according to the owner. Gio has been crated and take well to being in one. There were nights he would willing sleep in the crate. When in the home Gio is the type to follow you around seeking attention or be in the same room. When left alone in the home Gio can be destructive of household items and it is suggested to crate him for that reason by the owner. Gio was brought up eating dry food and the brand the owner gave was Pedigree.

A volunteer writes: When you first meet Gio you notice how stunning his coat is, he has light brown markings all down his back all the way to his stubby tail. He has the cutest little smooshed in face that you just want to squueeeeezzzzzeeee. While admiring how handsome Gio is you quickly realize you are meeting the shelter goof ball, class clown as he will play fake out with you and then kiss you all up, snuggle and then play some more. He even rolls over in the middle of his walk for a belly rub. Can he get an goofier than that ? If you’re looking for a fun, goofy dog, look no further Gio is the one for you!!!Come to Staten Island ACC and meet Gio.
07/14/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gio came to our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he has growled and snapped at children in the home periodically. Behavior around cats is unknown, but owner reports Gio has growled and lunged at dogs in the past. Gio’s owner describes him as playful with a very high activity level. When left alone, owner reports Gio has been anxious and destructive of household items, therefore he has been crate trained and takes well to being in a crate. Gio was friendly and solicited attention during intake as well as his during his initial medical exam. When getting ready for his relief walk, Gio grabbed the leash and played Tug of War, taking a moment to settle. He pulled a bit on leash for his relief walk. Gio allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, ears back. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, mouth open, body soft.Gio was distracted and unresponsive to the assessor during the Tag game, but approached at the end with coaxing.Gio leaned his body away during both Squeeze attempts, but did not pull his paw back. He calmly allowed the Food bowl to be moved, but required a bit of pressure from assess-a-hand to push his cheek out of the dish. Gio had no interest in Toy or Rawhide, though owner reports he is playful with Toys when relaxed and will play with just about anything. Gio rushed forward towards helper dog, ears forward. Due to owners reports of various circumstances of growling and snapping, the Behavior Team feels Gio would do best with an Experienced adopter with No Children. He may benefit from durable toys such as Kongs or Nylabones to positively direct his high energy. Gio may also benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as focus and impulse control. He should continue to use a crate in the home when left alone to avoid any anxious destructiveness as previously reported. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body soft ,ears back, allows head to be held loosely. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still, ccepts the touch, his eyes are averted, relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, approaches the Assessor at the end with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog leans away, does not pull paw back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: no interest. Rawhide: no interest. Dog-to-Dog: Dog rushes helper dog, ears forward
