I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 11/13/2016 from NY 11436, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/15/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Ginger was friendly and playful towards the assessor; She displayed no concerns. PLAYGROUP: Ginger was brought in as a stray so her past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Ginger is initially nervous when interacting with male and female dogs. With further playgroup sessions, Ginger is able to engage in gentle play with small and large dogs. She becomes overwhelmed with high energy play, but continues to try and play. The Behavior Department recommends that Ginger be placed in a home with dogs that match her gentle play style and that her future owners continue her socialization around other dogs. Ginger was brought in as a stray so her past behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Ginger is initially nervous when interacting with male and female dogs. With further playgroup sessions, Ginger is able to engage in gentle play with small and large dogs. She becomes overwhelmed with high energy play, but continues to try and play. The Behavior Department recommends that Ginger be placed in a home with dogs that match her gentle play style and that her future owners continue her socialization around other dogs. 11/14: Ginger is initially nervous when meeting the calm male helper dog, tucking her body and low wagging her rear-end. She quickly loosens up and becomes more energetic and solicits play. When introduced to a group of gentle players, she ebbs in and out of play with both females and males. She does get a little overwhelmed but takes a break and rejoins the play. 11/15: In a group of playful male and female dogs, Ginger becomes overwhelmed with their high energy play style, lowering her body and tucking her tail. She may offer soft air snaps when too many dogs greet her face to face. She relaxes as the session continues, attempting to engage in gentler play. 11/16: In a group of playful male and female dogs, Ginger is more relaxed and is able to engage and solicit play. 11/17-11/18: Ginger engaged in chase play and was tolerant of body slams in a group of rough male and female players. 11/19: Ginger continues to engage in play, but shuts down when a sexually motivated male attempts to mount her. She displays a tense face and tucked body lowers herself to the ground. 11/20: Ginger engages in gentle play with another female puppy and an older female dog. She persistently solicits play from the puppy even when the puppy shows signals of not wanting to play anymore. 11/21: Ginger engages in soft wiggly play with other dogs and is tolerant.
