Geronimo
Hello, my name is Geronimo. My animal id is #8033. I am a male brown dog at the Room 5 – Dog Isolation. The shelter thinks i am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a data import – incoming on 01-Oct-2017.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Behavior determination: Average A volunteer writes: Geronimo! That’s what your heart is going to say before it leaps right out of your chest the moment you lay eyes on this dreamboat! He just radiates sweetness, and has a knack for becoming everybody’s favorite. He is a big boy, but of the gentle-giant variety: Geronimo has been very easy to walk on leash, and seems to have good awareness of his size. He is always wagging his tail and constantly checking in with the most loving eye contact — he is SO happy to be with people, and it shows! He knows how to make himself at home on your lap, gives kisses gently and generously, and is super attentive. To boot, he is very treat-motivated (he “sits” like a champ!), seems housebroken, and has done well so far with other dogs in our playgroups. He is super special and would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
My medical notes are…
Weight: 76 lbs
Details on my behavior are…
Date of assessment: 1-Oct-2017 Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft. Paw squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Paw squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Summary: Geronimo was very friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. Summary (1): When off leash at the Care Center, Geronimo is sexually motivated- persistently sniffing genital areas- but does not attempt to mount. He will engage in cooperative play with a novel female dog, but is selective with male dogs. Geronimo was brought in as stray with two other resident dogs but limited information was provided, so his past behavior around other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Geronimo be placed in a home with resident female that match his gentle play style and tolerate his sexually motivated behavior. Male resident dogs should be respectful and well socialized. All introductions should be done slowly and under supervision. Summary (2): 9/26: Geronimo is sexually motivated- persistently sniffing genital areas- but does not attempt to mount. He does engage in spins and bounces and tolerates the greeter’s occasional mount. Summary (3): 9/27: Today Geronimo was tolerant of a mouthy pushy female’s solicitations. He attempts to mount her between bouts of play. When introduced to a neuter male dog, he displays a soft body and persistently sniffs his rear, ignoring the other dog’s social cues and warning (lip curls). Summary (4): 9/28: When greeting a large recently neuter male, Geronimo persistently sniffed his genitals, before standing tall and offering chin overs. He briefly listens to handler interruptions before returning to the dog. As the session continued, he moved away to explore his surroundings. Summary (5): 9/29-10/1: Geromino mounts the female dogs’ in-between bouts of play. Date of intake: 1-Oct-2017 Summary: Loose body and allowed all handling Date of initial: 1-Oct-2017 Summary: Loose body and allowed all handling ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Geronimo so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
