02/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh, Georgia…sweet Georgia…She really is a girl to remember and a day after meeting her I’ve still got this beautiful flower on my mind. Her pleading eyes and elegant cheekbones, and one very gentle nature, the tiny kisses and soft hugs she loves to share and her puppy-ish eagerness for treats. Everything about Georgia seems designed to delight and she’s cast an enchanting spell over my heart after just one date. Snuggles are second nature to this quiet darling and to look at her delicate frame you could easily mistake her for a puppy but Georgia is all grown-up and has the talents to match. She walks well in harness, seems to be house trained and is always ready to sit politely on command for treats–though she’d rather eat them from a hugging position, thank you! She meets other dogs in polite friendship and welcomes new people with open arms too. No one will ever be lonely if this generous girl can help it and she deserves to be adored in return. Can you offer our little Georgia peach a home as sweet and loving as she is? Please don’t make her wait another day…
02/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Georgia came into our center on 2/12/2016. She was hesitant during intake when approached over her head, but was friendly and allowed all handling. Georgia walked well on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. Georgia was social and affectionate upon entering the SAFER assessment room, allowing all handling. She held gaze during Look item, lip lick, tail down. Georgia leaned in during Sensitivity item, mouth closed, ears back, tail down. She was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, focused on other stimuli. Georgia did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, sniffing assessor’s hand. She showed minimal interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs Georgia is uncomfortable, turning away when her face is approached. When re-approached she barks in attempts to get the other dog to back off. The Behavior Team feels Georgia would do best with an Experienced owner. She would do best with a slow introduction, allowing Georgia to approach potential adopters at her own pace rather than being approached. Once comfortable, Georgia allowed assessment team to handle her head but initially she is uncomfortable with someone reaching directly over her head to pet her. Look: 1. Dog held gaze for three full seconds, lip lick, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans in and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, sniffs hand. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Georgia is uncomfortable, turning away when her face is approached. When re-approached she barks in attempts to get the other dog to back off.
02/13/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Georgia was initially uncomofrtable when approached by other dogs. She appears most comfortable approaching dogs that are calm and respectful. Based on observation made on Georgia while in our care, the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Georgia, and slow introduction before being introduced to a resident dog. Georgia may do best with a calmer, more respectful dog. When off leash with other dogs Georgia is uncomfortable, turning away when her face is approached. When re-approached she barks in attempts to get the other dog to back off. 2/16 update: Georgia allows a very brief sniff from the greeter dog, and continues to offer small barks in an attempt to increase space from the greeter dog. 2/18 update: Georgia offers correction for pushy play solicitation. She approaches to greet a calmer dog. 2/19 update: Georgia offers muzzle punches to solicit play but quickly ceases when the other dogs are not interested. She will correct running play. 2/20 update: Georgia greets and is a little more polite with dogs who are respectful. She continues to offer correction if mounted.
