A Little Bit About Me…
A Staff member writes : Gemma is such a sweetheart that it’s unbelievable she’s been at the Brooklyn Care Center for over a week! She was brought in by a kind Samaritan who saw her get hit by a car one night. They brought her into their home overnight before bringing her to ACC, and though she’s recovering well (only some swelling and abrasions luckily!), she still isn’t well enough to go to playgroup. She’s very bouncy and immediately social and wiggly with other dogs through the gate, and she’s allowed all handling despite her injuries. With a little rest and lots of love she’d make an incredibly loving family pup!

Details on my behavior are…
Date of assessment: 11-Mar-2018
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.
Flank squeeze 1:1. Dog does not respond at all.
Flank squeeze 2:1. Dog does not respond at all.
Toy:1. No interest.
Summary:No concerns were seen during the handling assessment. Gemma readily allowed handling. She was playful, and social towards the assessor.
Summary (1):Gemma was brought in as a stray so her behavior around other dogs is unknown.
3/12: Due to the injury to Gemma’s front paw we only conducted a fence greet with her and a novel male dog. She approached the gate with a soft, loose and wiggly body. They exchanged a few sniffs and licks through the gate and she offered a few bounces.
3/22: Today, Gemma returned to group after recovering from surgery and her injury. She greets with a high energy, wiggly and bouncy body. She momentarily engages in chase play, but instantly becomes conflicted- lip curling while reciprocating solicitations. She temporarily tolerates the other dog’s body contact but eventually delivers corrections for prolong genital sniffs, and body slams.
Date of intake:10-Mar-2018
Summary:Behavior unknown
Date of initial:10-Mar-2018
Summary:Allowed all handling
ENERGY LEVEL: Based on condition Gemma came into the shelter with, energy level cannot be appropriately assessed.
3/16 Behavior- We have no history on Gemma so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment.
Gemma is a young, enthusiastic, social dog, she will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised.
