Gem is a jewel of many carats….Indeed, she is not only gorgeous but weights 97 pounds….Gem, a young Australian Shepherd is with us as her landlord vetoed large dogs….So sad and unfair as she is really a wonderful pooch who has made her family very happy to have such an affectionate four legged friend….  Gem comes indeed with wonderful comments . Although of low activity level, she is very lively with adults and plays gently with children. She has no handling issues, is house,  wee wee pads  and crate trained. Gem did not expect this very harsh turn in her life..She is quiet and a bit subdued in her kennel although she does come on her own to her door. She is an excellent walker and eliminates immediately as we leave the care center. Leash free in a pen, she is a bit shy(her former owner told us that she was timid at first with strangers). She comes quickly around and soon enough, she rushes when I call her and sits by my side, her chin in my lap, ready for caresses. What a gorgeous  dog she is. She does not need any scarf to enhance her natural beauty. True, she is a bit tubby but what a coat, so perfect, what coloring, so attractive and that one blue eye that melts my heart…Gem has been so well cared for….She nears other dogs calmly and is well mannered in playgroups with her peers.  What is not to love about Gem? She is really precious, beautiful inside out and will make an awesome and loving forever best friend. Gem is already waiting for you in our adoption quarters. PROFILE:
Gem A1067206 is an approximately 3 year old Australian Shepherd Mix.  Gem was a gift to the owner from Family. She is being surrendered to the shelter because the owner is developing allergies to the dog and lives in a place where big dogs are not allowed.  Gem does not have any health concerns.

SOCIALIZATION

Gem is a little shy at first around strangers.  Gem plays exhuberantly with adults due to her size.  She is relaxed and respectful around children.  Gem has never lived with another dog or cat.  Gem has never bitten anyone.

BEHAVIOR

Gem does not have any behavior issues.  During storms or loud noises she is afraid.  Gem allows you to touch her food bowl, water bowl or toy away.  She struggles during bath time.  she allows you to brush her.  If an unfamiliar approaches the doorway or owner, she barks.

FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW

Gem is best described as friendly, affectionate and playful.  She has a low activity level.  when home, she follows you around.  she does not have any toys.  she has been kept mostly indoors.  She eats Gravy Train dry food.  Gem is house trained and wee-wee pad trained.  She does have accidents every now and then.  Gem has never been crate trained.  She listens to the command sit.  For exercise she would be slow walked on the leash.  Gem does pull while walking.

BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE

Gem allowed all handling, collaring and photos.
