Hello, my name is Gary. My animal id is #9138. I am a male black dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 4 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a returns on 07-Oct-2017.

Gary 9138 is at risk with a New Hope Only behavior determination and with CIRDC. He has allowed handling at times, though at other times has escalated to warning behaviors (snapping); he has also shown potential object guarding behavior during his handling assessment (growling and snapping when the toy was taken away) and discomfort around other dogs in playgroup.

DVM: 1431 DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 4 years Microchip noted on Intake? yes History : return to shelter Subjective:BAR, hydrated Observed Behavior – tries to bite, needs firm restraint and telazol for full exam and treatment (0.15 ml telazol im at 1pm) Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective P = 120 R = 20 BCS: 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: negative oral. PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs: increased tracheal sounds, harsh/moist cough on tracheal palpation. Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Unknown Date of assessment: 10-Oct-2017 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft. Paw squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Eyes are averted and ears are relaxed or back. Paw squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Eyes are averted and ears are relaxed or back. Toy: 5. Dog snaps or bites the Assess-a-Hand. Summary: Gary was social, approaching the assessor for soft petting, and he had a relaxed body posture. During the toy item Gary was reactive low growling, and quickly escalating to a growl, and snap on second attempt.
