04/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Garbo came to us as a stray so we don’t have any behavior information other than what has been observed while in the shelter environment. According to the finder Garbo had another dog which Garbo did get along with. Upon intake Garbo had loose and wiggly body language was able to be collared and accepted treats from the counselor’s hands. Garbo pulled very strongly on his relief walk, but had very soft body language. When entering the behavior room Garbo became very uncomfortable and began to become very frantic in movement. At certain points Garbo became very vocal and would head flip very quickly toward any touch made by the assessor with tense body language. He would also try to lunge toward the assistant in the room while the assessor was attempting to handle him. Due to this behavior and safety reasons the handling items were skipped. Garbo proved easy to handle when chewing on the toy items and relinquished the item when the assessor attempted to take it. Due to the assessor unable to conduct the handling items of the SAFER we recommend Garbo to with a New Hope partner that can provide the appropriate behavior modification necessary. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. When off leash with other dogs, Garbo approaches and greets with a tense body and a chattering jaw. He does not solicit nor interact with the other dog outside of being sexually motivated and is persistent after interruptions by the handlers
