05/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Max previously lived with 2 adults and 2 children ages 9 and 17 years old. The owner stated Max is friendly and gentle towards strangers, adults and children. The owner mentioned Max is house trained, had a medium to high activity level and well behaved when home alone in the yard. At intake it was reported Max was relaxed and allowed all handling. During SAFER Max came into the assessment room calm with his tail wagging, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Max was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Max was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Max appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter and we recommend a dog to dog interaction before being place into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: According to Max’s previous owner, Max has not been around other dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Max greets with a slightly stiff body. Once in the pen he becomes sexually motivated, standing tall, but does not attempt to mount and continues to wander in the pen.
