07/29/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Basic Info: Galaxy A1083252 is a1yr 2month old female tricolor Basset Hound mix who was given to the owner from the previous owner 8months ago and is being surrendered due to the owner moving to where pets aren’t allowed. She was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 and currently has some skin issues occuring with her ears and paws/ankles. Socialization: Around strangers Galaxy is friendly/outgoing. She’s lived with a 1, 2 & 7yrs olds and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed & playful with them also the adults and a small breed dog in the home. She also lived with a cat that she wasn’t too fond of and would chase & “harrass”. Galaxy has never bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Galaxy isn’t bothered by the following: having her food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture, being brushed, being bathed or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. She hasn’t had her nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member Galaxy will bark at them for attention. For A New Family to Know: Galaxy is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a medium-high activity level. Galaxy enjoys playing, squeaky, ball toys and games of fetch, chase & tug. Galaxy is mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps near the family & is walked 2-3x a day. Galaxy eats dry Pedigree 2-3x a day. She will have accidents in the home if someone takes too long to take her out. When left home alone Galazxy will bark and her known commands are “sit” & “come”. Intake Behavior: Galaxy allowed all handling. She allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of including positioning her during her photo session which was a little difficult as she was very wiggly and wanted to jump onto my lap and or grab the squeaky toy or give me kisses. Galaxy was then walked to her kennel where she hopped in on her own.
07/31/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Galaxy is understandably a little stressed in her kennel. She had a home just yesterday, a family with very young children, a little dog and even a cat that she liked to harass…She comes with stellar recommendations and is with us only because her owners are moving to a place not allowing large dogs… Galaxy is gorgeous and has been beautifully cared for. She is clearly a hound with long legs and elegant markings. She is strong, pulls on the leash and does her business as soon as we are in the street. She sits on command and gives stand up hugs. She loves being caressed and talked to and is very demonstrative in her feelings…I think that she must be a lot of fun to spend time with as she seems to have a lot of “personality”!! We met quite a number of other dogs on our way to the park. Galaxy was fine with them. The fall is coming soon.. Imagine yourself walking through wide fields, Galaxy by your side, looking for gorgeous wildlife pictures to shoot…Spirited and elegant Galaxy is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center. Come and meet your new “partner in crime”, your forever best friend who is ready for all kinds of adventures…
08/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Galaxy came into our center as an owner surrender citing moving issues. It is reported she lived with a 1, 2, and 7 year old, gentle, exuberant, relaxed, playful. She also reportedly lived with a small breed dog and a cat in the home, owner reports she would chase the cat. It is reported that Galaxy is not bothered if anyone touches her food, Toys, treats. She is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable, and independent. Galaxy allowed all handling during intake, very wiggly and attempting to jump onto counselor’s lap. She grabbed and tugged on leash during her relief walk, pulling a little, excited when she saw other dogs. Galaxy jumped up and licked assessor upon entering SAFER assessment room. She began demand barking during positioning for Look item, pulling out of assessor’s hands on all three attempts. She leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging, focused on other stimuli (sniffing assessor’s pants). Galaxy ran and jumped and played during Tag game, grabbed leash towards end of game, requiring a quick reset by opening the door. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Galaxy showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports she enjoys playing with squeaky toys, ball toys, games of fetch, chase, and tug. She approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail at spine level. The Behavior Team feels Galaxy would do best with an Experienced adopter. She will benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, as well as body awareness in regards to jumping up and mouthing. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans into the Assessor, focused on other stimuli Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, grabs leash towards end, requires a reset. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, then walks away. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral
08/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Galaxy greets with a sniff and begins to “zoomie” around the pen. She begins to reciprocate when play is solicited, but does begin to air-snap as a correction, and appear conflicted during. Galazy does become increasingly more comfortable and begins to engage more fully with prolonged time. Her owner reports she is “gentle, exuberant, relaxed & playful with a small breed dog in the home.” The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing Galaxy into a home with other dogs as well as allowing Galaxy time to acclimate to her new environment before introducing her to any resident dogs.
