05/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I looked through my box of 1000 Crayola crayons and couldn’t come up with a color match for Gabby. Her coat is a milk chocolate, faun color with bronze and gold threads running through it. To say she’s stunning would be an understatement! She’s a head turner, a show stopper, and even during our short walk several people commented on her unique good looks. “She’s SO fine”, said one. Her reach to the sky ears, and soft hazel eyes add to her movie star good looks, and her tail wags happily when I talk to her. Gabby is excited to be out, she pulls on the leash, does some jumping up in her excitement, but calms quickly and will then lean in for a stand up hug. She wants to meet everyone she sees, dogs and people. In the yard she loved playing with a ball, and that’s when her puppy clumsiness came out as she pounces on the ball with her big feet, tossing it around and having a great time amusing herself. What a clown! I can take the ball right out of her mouth for another throw, then she shows me her sit in exchange for a treat which she takes softly, and poses for some pictures perfectly. Gabby is a great combination of sublime perfection in the looks department, a touch of athleticism in the ball playing arena, and a hint of affection in the snuggle area. An active family would suit her just fine, and a box of balls would make her sigh in bliss. Come meet our beauty today.
05/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gabby pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Gabby engages in play, with a loose body and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction but was easy to distract her. She took the toy with a soft body language. Gabby shows a bit of concern when she past dogs in the building and she get tense when she approached and greeted them. Gabby need time to warm up around other dogs. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. She grab at the leash with a soft body language but was easy to distracted him. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: Gabby was tense at the gate. She became increasingly tense until allowed into the pen off-lead. Gabby displayed a stiff body when approached and greeted. Body still tense, she jumps on the male helper dog and vocalizes, but is able to de-escalate herself without further incident. Gabby begins to loosen up, and re-approaches several times to sniff the male helper. When solcited to play, Gabby moves away at first, but becomes increasingly interested and reciprocates with bows- eventually engaging in bouts of play. When on-leash, it is noticed that Gabby tenses and vocalizes when walking past dogs.
05/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Gabby has displayed a high amount of on-leash and barrier reactivity in respons to other dogs. She often begins to vocalize and pull toward other dogs that pass by. When introduced off leash, Gabby was intially tense, but eventually began to engage in bouts of play. At times, she becomes tense and offers correction in response to pushy play. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction, and allowing Gabby time to decompress and acclimate into a new home environment with slow introductions. Gabby was tense at the gate. 5/11 update: Gabby engages in bouts of play with males and females. She offers correction when play becomes overwhelming. 5/12 update: Gabby is intially tense upon entering the pen, then begins to engage in play. 5/13 update: Gabby is tense when meeting a social female, jumping on her and vocalizing. She offers a few solicitations but when another dog seeks attention from the handler she, again, jumps on her tense and vocalizing.
