05/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
5/16 update: Future is not thriving in the shelter environment. Still highly social with humans and dogs, he has begun refusing to walk through the building and yard. He flattens to the ground and resists or backs up when the handler attempts to walk him. We cannot coax him with treats as he will not accept food in this situation. In order to return him to his kennel, his caretakers have had to crouch down and coax him throughout the halls step-by-step. However, we are not able to address the underlying stress and feel it is in his best interest to leave the shelter immediately so he does not continue to rehearse this behavior. He has shown no aggression and should this behavior prove to be environmental only and resolves outside the shelter, he is likely suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience. However, we cannot be certain of whether this behavior will generalize to other situations or other triggers, so we recommend someone knowledgeable about dog body language who will recognize signs of fear and go slowly with Future so he remains comfortable and confident. 5/10 SAFER: Future walks calmly on leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Future was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Future did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
05/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Future has displayed both anxious, as well as sexually motivated behavior during off leash interaction. Most recently, he has displayed brief interest in play. While in our care, he has not yet been introduced off leash to a male dog. Future arrived as a stray, so in-home behavior with other dogs is unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Future before placement into a home with another dog. He may be do best with slow introdcutions, and if given time to acclimate and decompress in a new environment. When off leash with other dogs, Future greets, then attempts to mount. He is anxious and a bit frantic while in the yard. 5/10 update: Future displays persistant sexually motivated behavior. 5/12 update: Future attempts to mount, but ceases attempting when solicited with play. However, Future does not reciprocate with playful behaviors. 5/13 update: Future attempts to mount but takes correction. Afterward he whines/paces then seeks exit. 5/14 update: Future is initially anxious then begins to approach and solicit the females. He may attempt to mount but does take correction. 5/15 update: Future approaches and greets within a group of polite, female dogs. He becomes a bit anxious while in the yard, and begins to pace. 5/16 update: Future greets politely. He attempts to solicit from other female dogs by offering bows. When not reciprocated with play, he attempts to mount.
