Dog is friendly and excitable
09/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Fudge is here to prove that chocolate is overrated, and all you really need to comfort you is a sweet snugglepup and lots of sloppy kisses! He’s quite possibly the friendliest dog I’ve ever met, and he earned his stellar behavior rating fair and square, wowing the assessors with a relaxed and easy-going attitude, and quickly warming to the ‘helper dog’ in playgroup too. This affectionate young guy is a lover, not a fighter, and he whines to play with every dog we pass, large or small, his tail wagging so fast it’s almost a blur. He’s a good leash walker, seemingly house trained and already well-versed in commands for come and sit down, not to mention very delicate when taking reward treats from my hand. A complete gentleman from smoochy face to happy tail, Fudge is so sociable and eager to please that if he wasn’t equally fond of other pups I’d be honoring him as my ‘People Dog’ of the Year! There seems to be no end to the depth of his love for life, the world and everyone in it, and I guarantee there’s still plenty of room in that big ol’ heart for a new family of any size, shape or species. Fudge is waiting patiently at our Manhattan Care Center, so go ahead and don’t be shy, treat yourself to someone sweet today!
09/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unknown Unaltered, Stray AGGRESSION ASSESSMENT: 9/7/16 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Fudge showed no concerns for human-directed aggression on this assessment. PLAYGROUP: 09/07/16 When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Fudge is initially tense upon entering the pen. He sniffs and appears sexually motivated while greeting the female greeter dog. He loosens a bit and does offer a few bounces when the greeter dog solicits him with play. Fudge arrived into our care with another dog, however no history is available on their behavior together. There is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how Fudge’s behavior will translate into a home setting. The behavior team feels Fudge should require pre-adoption and slow interaction pending potential placement into a home with other dogs. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/6/16 No noted concerns, allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
09/07/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
09/07/16 When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Fudge is initially tense upon entering the pen. He sniffs and appears sexually motivated while greeting the female greeter dog. He loosens a bit, and does offer a few bounces when the greeter dog solicits him with play. It has been observed that Fudge becomes tense and growls passing other dogs on leash. Fudge arrived into our care with another dog, however no history is available on their behavior together. There is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how Fudge’s behavior will translate into a home setting. The behavior team feels that Fudge should be allowed time to acclimate to life outside the shelter environment as the only resident dog, before following up on his behavior around them.
