A volunteer writes: An adorable pint sized little guy with a big, friendly, happy personality is wagging his tail at the prospect of a walk. Not being able to refuse this happy little fellow, I leash him easily and out we go. He’s so excited to be out, let’s me put a coat on him against the afternoon chill, and goes potty the moment we’re out the door. Surrendered due to landlord issues we’re told that Friday is friendly with new people, lived with a 3 year old child with whom he was relaxed, playful and tolerant, plays exuberantly with other dogs, and spent time at his dad’s work (groomer) with cats in nearby cages and seemed relaxed around them. We’re also told he’s housetrained, crate trained, knows sit when asked. After our walk Friday and I head into a backyard pen, where he play bowed to me (so cute!!) ready to play and have a good time. Showing off his sit, he took a treat gently, chased a bird out of our pen, played with a toy, chased a ball and excitedly greeted other dogs passing by. An awesome little fellow, he’s playful, engaged and engaging, ready to find a new family to love every day of the week. Come meet our little fellow today!
BASIC INFO
Friday is an 11 month old neutered APBT mix. He was found outside and brought to a vet office when he was 3 months old. The groomer brought him home and has had him since then but is unable to keep him due to landlord conflict and allergies. Friday had giardia when he was a small puppy but has since been healthy.
SOCIALIZATION
Friday is friendly/outgoing with new people. He lived with a 2-3 year old child who played very rough with him and was relaxed, playful, affectionate, and very tolerant with him. Friday plays exuberantly with people. He’s relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with other dogs. He spent a lot of time at his dad’s work with cats in cages nearby and was relaxed around them. He’s never bit anyone.
BEHAVIOR
Friday doesn’t mind storms. He enjoys being brushed. He’s friendly with new people who approach his home/family. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, or wakes him up. He’s a little nervous but tolerant when someone bathes him or trims his nails.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Friday’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. He follows his family around. He likes balls and plays fetch and chase. He lived inside. He ate dry Pedigree food and enjoyed dog treats. He’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and pottis anywhere outside. He went for brisk walks and pulls on his leash. Friday is usually well-behaved while home alone, but chewed on multiple pieces of furniture one day while alone about 3 months ago. His owner thinks he was bored as he didn’t have toys around. He’s since been keeping him in a pop-up crate while he’s home alone and at night and Friday does well. He sits when asked.
INTAKE
Friday had a soft body in his carrier on wheels and leaned into me while I pet him. On the floor in the lobby, he hid under his owner’s chair and had a low body and tail, but wagged his tail while I pet him, scanned him (-), and collared him. In Admissions, he had a soft body and walked around. He sat on our feet while he chewed his bone. He took treats nicely. He walked around slowly and with a low body but followed us, especially with coaxing.
SAFER
Friday walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Friday was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys.
