08/12/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “Frankie, Frankie, he’s our man, if he can’t do it no one can!!” A big bruiser of a boy, with a soft spot for squeaky plush toys, he’s a fabulous dog who I loved spending time with. His ears go up to there, his megawatt smile lights up the room, his tail wags, and his stocky body atop short legs is perfect for hopping around the pen. Every once in a while his little tongue sticks out, totally destroying his image of a big tough guy. So cute! Frankie seems to be housetrained, is better walked in a harness as he pulls on leash, sits for treats which he takes gently, likes to play tug, and loves, loves, loves a soft squeaky toy. He looked adorable playing with a pink elephant, tossing it around the pen and giving chase. Frankie is a bit hand shy but enjoys petting when approached from underneath, wagging his tail and smiling. He’s enjoyed bouncy play with both boys and girls in group, and is simply a fun loving, goofy boy. When our time was over, Frankie hopped right back into his kennel with a tail wag and huge smile, and I couldn’t resist giving him a kiss and another treat, promising his new family must be right around the corner. Let’s make his wish come true.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/10/17 During his initial medical exam, Frankie was tense and did not allow handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Frankie so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Frankie is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Frankie the option to walk away from any social interaction. Frankie should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Frankie’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Frankie would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
