I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 05/24/2016 from NY 10455, owner surrender reason stated was OWNER SICK.

05/24/16 18:00 BASIC INFO Frankie A1074976 is an approximately 8 year old Daschund. He is being surrendered to the shelter because the owner is sick and cannot properly care for him. Frankie was a gift to the owner 5 years ago from a friend. Frankie has trouble eating because he has a problem with his teeth. SOCIALIZATION Around strangers, Frankie is fearful. He does not play with adults. Frankie has never lived with children. Frankie has never lived with another dog. He does live with a cat and he is friendly with the cat. Frankie has never bitten anyone. BEHAVIOR Frankie does not have any behavior issues. Frankie allows you to take away his food bowl, water bowl or toy away. Frankie allows you to bathe him. if an unfamilair approaches the doorway, Frankie barks. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Frankie is best described as friendly, affectionate and independent. He has a low activity level. When home, he stays in the same room. He has been kept mostly indoors. Frankie eats Beneful dry food. He is house trained and wee-wee pad trained. For exercise he would be walked on the leash. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Frankie did not allow handling, or collaring.

Frankie is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Frankie tries to hide under the chairs and desk. During the look he snapped at the assessor hand. Due to his behavior the behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Frankie was not interested in food. Frankie was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he is friendly, affectionate and independent. He has a low activity level. Around strangers, Frankie is fearful. He does not play with adults. Frankie has never lived with children. Frankie has never lived with another dog. He does live with a cat and he is friendly with the cat. Frankie allows you to take away his food bowl, water bowl or toy away”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
