04/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Frank came into our center after a member of the public found him tied outside their place of employment. He was friendly upon intake and allowed all handling. Frank comes out of kennel easily at times, other times he may try to bite when approached inside kennel, is also difficult to place back inside kennel, may snap at handler and bite rope. He may gulp his food or treats and growl in kennel if someone approaches. Frank was calm and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment area. He held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, relaxed. Frank leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, mouth closed. He was distracted and unresponsive to touch on each pass during Tag. Frank did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He took Toy away, body loose. Frank did not approach the helper dog, hair standing up, tense and still. It should be noted Frank passed two female dogs in the yard and was soft, tail wagging, he may be selective in regards to other dogs. Due to Frank’s potential for possible possessiveness and kennel reactivity, Frank must be placed with a New Hope partner. We recommend quick treats as opposed to long lasting chews to decrease possibility of any possessive behaviors. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold, body loose. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: 3. Dog does not approach the helper dog, hair standing up, still.
