02/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Fluffy came into our center as an owner surrender along with another large sized dog due to owner’s declining health. It is reported Fluffy lived with children and enjoyed interacting with them. She was reportedly anxious if approached by visitors to the home and will chase her tail. It is reported Fluffy is fearful of motorized grooming clippers, only groomed with scissors, and is very sensitive and reactive if touched at the tail and mouth. Owner reports Fluffy is not bothered if someone touches her Food, Toys, or Treats. Upon intake, Fluffy was fearful and growling when approached. She walked well on leash for her relief walk. Fluffy allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, lip lick. She was uncomfortable with Sensitivity item, head turned towards assessor’s hand, lip lick, low growling, but allowed the touch. Fluffy did not follow at the end of the leash for Tag game, turning and standing tall and square on first pass, barking and growling, therefore remaining tactile portions of assessment were skipped. Fluffy showed no interest in Toy. The Behavior Team feels Fluffy would do best with a New Hope partner. She may benefit from regularly scheduled professional grooming appointments at a veterinarian’s office (approx. every 8-10 weeks) to aid in quelling any sensitivity or discomfort that may result from severe matting. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, lip lick, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 4. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body alert, turns head towards assessor’s hand, mouth closed, ears back, lip lick, low growl. Tag: 4. Dog stands her ground while not cornered and barks at the Assessor with ears forward, body stiff, mouth closed and lips pursed when not barking, growl. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: Fluffy greets appropriately but mostly avoids the other dogs. He does seek the handler’s attention and explores the environment.
02/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
The Behavior Department was unable to remove Fluffy from her cage safely and without causing further stress for her so she was not brought to playgroup today. Another attempt will be made tomorrow. 2/08 update: Fluffy greets appropriately but mostly avoids the other dogs. He does seek the handler’s attention and explores the environment.
