A house full of kids…. The wish of Fenton’s former master when she relinquished him into our care as the family had no time for a pet anymore. Indeed Fenton lived and played happily with three young children for a few years. Only good things were said about him leading us to thing that he was one of the pack. Sadly, he is an orphan now and must find a new master and a new place to belong too. You are going to say, “Yet another black dog.” I can see that… But where is the problem? That, I do not see. Fenton is a good dog, a family dog, one who seems to like other pooches very much. As a matter of fact, he welcomes everyone in sight quite heartily, dogs and people a like. He walks nicely on the leash, is house trained, sits on command, enjoys caresses and is quite well mannered. I like that he is so welcoming and calm in his kennel, keeping also a clean den. All together, Fenton is a handsome, healthy, friendly, sociable and well mannered family dog who lived with kids and who would make an excellent forever best friend. He is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center to start his life again with you.

BEHAVIOR:
Fenton walks calmly on leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Fenton did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Fenton approached other dog with friendly/playful body language.
Fenton was surrender to us. According to the previous owner he used to live with one adult and three children. The owner stated that he is very friendly with children and strangers. Fenton did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze2: 1 . Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog in play position. His mouth is open.

GROUP BEHAVIOR:
When off-leash with other dogs, Fenton greets other dogs appropriately. He is interested in interacting with other dogs but is only slightly playful.

Fenton is playful with other playful dogs. With dogs who may be less comfortable, he is very respectful.
