The Behavior Department recommends that Fello be placed with resident dogs that are tolerant of his mounting behavior. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 6/26/17: Unknown MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/26/17: Fello was very friendly, tail wagging. Sniffing around lots. Curious. Happy dog.
ENERGY LEVEL: His previous owner reports a high activity level, which matches what we have seen in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home _X_No children (under 13) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control: Fello has displayed an intense level of grabbing at objects in the care center. He jumps up and grabs things (novel objects.) and is reluctant to let go of them. He has traded these things for treats. He will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to leave things alone and not jump. If he does grab something, he should always be traded for a treat. Nothing should ever be forcibly removed from his mouth. _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition: Fello applies hard pressure when mouthing and was mouthy throughout the assessment and is quick to put his teeth on skin. This is likely an attention-seeking behavior, but it should be replaced with an alternative behavior as it can frighten people. We recommend never playing with bare hands – always with a toy – and ending play or attention whenever Fello puts teeth on skin. He should be rewarded with attention and treats when he stops and/or when he is seeking attention in alternate ways.
