07/09/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Maybe Fawn got her name because with her brown coat and markings on her face, she looks like a little deer…or maybe it’s because she’s easy to fawn all over her! Either way at only 33 pounds, this pocket pittie is one not to be missed! Her wrinkly face gives her a look of constant concern, and while we don’t know much about her past prior to landing at the Brooklyn Care Center, it seems this little lady is taking it all in stride. Fawn walks nicely on the leash, seems like she has some housetraining and while a bit shy in our doggy playgroups, seems to be getting a lot more comfortable over time. If this little dear (pun intended!) is just what you’ve been looking for, ask to meet her today!

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Fawn so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. Fawn displayed low energy and movement throughout assessment. Fawn will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the (behaviors outlined below). Potential challenges: _X_ Fearful- Though observed to be human-social, Fawn may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Fawn to interact at her own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations. _X Anxiety – Fawn has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining,) continually through the SAFER and through play sessions outside. This behavior was not reported at intake, and we have no known history on Fawn, so we cannot be certain whether similar behavior will be seen in a future home environment.
