09/29/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
9/29/16 8:59 late entry Basic information: Fausta is a 4 yr. old Am Pit Bull mix. The Owner got her from the pervious owner as a gift; she has owned Fausta for over 4 months. The owner surrendered Fausta because the landlord does not allow pit bulls in the home. Fausta is allergic to dove soap and has an old rash on her back from the owner using it to clean her; she has never been treated and has never been taken to a vet. Socialization: Around strangers Fausta is friendly and playful. Fausta has not lived with children but she is relaxed and playful around children and adults she does not know. Fausta is very nervous around other dogs and tries to avoid them. She has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that Fausta is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while she is eating, when someone takes her toys away or when someone disturbs her while sleeping. Fausta likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had her nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or her home she approaches them in a friendly manor. The owner does not know how Fausta is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Fausta as friendly, affectionate and playful with a medium activity level. Her favorite activity is to walk with her owner. In the home Fausta tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Fausta sleeps on the floor of the bedroom on a dog bed. Fausta was fed Pedigree dry dog food three times a day. She is house trained and has never had an accident in the home, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. For exercise Fausta is used to brisk walks on the leash and twice a day and does not pull on the leash. Behavior during intake: Fausta was relaxed with lose body, she allowed to be scanned (-), collared pictured and placed in a dog kennel.
10/08/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: So sweet, so shy, this little girl had my heart at hello. Shy in her kennel she needed a little coaxing to join me for a walk, but each time I passed her kennel later in the day she was up front with a little tail wag. After going potty the moment we were out the door(confirming that she’s housetrained per her former owner) we’re off to the park where she gently poses for some pictures, play bows to two large dogs on leash as I stopped to talk with their owner, and wagged her tail at some people passing by. We’re told that Fausta is friendly and playful with children and strangers, doesn’t guard her things, and likes to be bathed and brushed. She’s never had her nails trimmed and definitely needs a mani/pedi! She’s the sweetest little girl who is looking for a person or family who understands the lifelong commitment a four legged companion should have. Fausta was surrendered to our care after being given to this recent owner as a gift although the landlord does not allow dogs. Please come meet Fausta and let her know you plan to love her forever. She deserves it.
Another volunteer writes: Always so quiet in her kennel, I looked at her walking log before taking her out. Wow! Not one volunteer had anything but incredible compliments for this sweetheart, the gist of them being “GREAT DOG”. And she is! Calm, gentle, easy to be with, shy, great on leash, housetrained, affectionate with her friends, she’s a total delight. Fausta is a bit hand shy so needs a gentle touch and soft approach until she knows you. When she saw a staff person she knows her tail wagged and she walked right up for a cuddle. A whole team full of volunteers who walk dozens of dogs can’t be wrong….she’s a great dog who needs you now.
09/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Fausta walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Fausta was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Fausta was not interested in toys. Fausta was surrender to us. According to her previous owner around strangers Fausta is friendly and playful. Fausta has not lived with children but she is relaxed and playful around children and adults she does not know. Fausta is very nervous around other dogs and tries to avoid them. The owner states that Fausta is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while she is eating, when someone takes her toys away. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. Fausta is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Fausta is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. No interest.
10/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with a spayed female Fausta is relaxed, offering a brief greeting then exploring the pen and seeking attention from handlers. Her owner reports she “is very nervous around other dogs and tries to avoid them.” Based on this information the behavior department recommends only placing Fausta into a home with dogs that are respectful, socially appropriate and not playful.
