12/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/13/16 Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 5. Dog growls Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells then turns away. Summary: Fancy was a bit fearful but displayed attention seeking behavior towards the handlers upon a slow/soft approach. Fancy became uncomfortable when attempting to initiate and engage in play, for these reasons we believe placement with a New Hope rescue group would be most appropriate at this time. PLAYGROUP: Fancy came in to the Care Center as a stray so her behavior with other dogs is unknown. When off leash with a novel male dog at the Care Center, Fancy greets with a soft wiggly body and play bows. She attempts to engage the dog in high energy play, and she becomes increasingly mouthy as the session continues. Fancy also greeted a playful female with a tense body but loosened up briefly and explored the yard. However once the other dog solicited play, Fancy once again became tense and participated in rough play but had difficulty controlling her arousal level- hackles stayed up, growling and throwing her body onto the other dogs flank. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/13/16 During her medical examination, Fancy was loose and wiggly but allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Fancy may benefit best from placement with a rescue group who can further assess her behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (The behavior department recommends allowing Fancy to approach and interact at her own pace. Fancy appears to easily startle upon loud noises/sudden movements. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Fancy to new and unfamiliar situations.)
