08/16/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/16/16 12:10 Faith A1085574 is a young adult female APBT mix. She was brought to ACC with Panda A1085576. They were left in the backyard when their owner had to move away for an emergency. A neighbor has been feeding them. He reports that the dogs are friendly, affectionate, and playful with people, including strangers, as well as with each other. They have lived in the yard. Faith had a soft body, open mouth, and wagging tail while I pet her, scanned her(-), collared her, and positioned her for pictures. She approached me and stood next to me while I pet her. She stood against me with her face and shoulder and stood up, gently leaned against me, and licked me.
08/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Faith is the quietest dog ever in her kennel. She was abandoned in a yard with her friend Panda as they owner had to leave for an emergency.. They were fed by a neighbor but brought to the care center as their master never returned.. We were told that they were both very friendly to people and to each other. Faith is easy to leash and walks quite slowly, eliminating in one stop on the way. She does not seem to mind other pooches met. She is a bit slow to warm up but when she does, she shows a lot of affection for her caretaker. She likes to be hugged, caressed and kissed, lays on my lap or by my side for comfort. She takes treats very gently from my hand. She does not mind when another volunteer comes to have a chat with me. In a playgroup with a peer, Faith was uncomfortable and was defensive when approached. She might have just been used to Panda and taught to protect her yard and her owners from intruders. If adopted or fostered, Faith will most likely need to be accepting of any other resident dog if there is to be one. Just like Panda, Faith is a beautiful dog, well cared for, well dressed and most likely devoted to her family. Going back to where she came from is not possible, so we hope and have faith that a suitable and loving home can be found for sweet Faith. She is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.
08/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Faith came to the care center as a stray. Upon intake, she had a soft body, open mouth, and wagging walk. For her relief walk, Faith did not pull on leash. Upon entering the assessment room, she appeared friendly and social. Her eyes were averted for Look and her body was relaxed. She leaned in for Sensitivity, mouth closed, ears neutral. She followed slowly for Tag, body soft, unresponsive to touch. She gently pulled back her paw on both Squeeze attempts. She had minimal interest in Toy, sniffing it. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Faith offers defensive correction when approached, and remains uncomfortable throughout the interaction. The Behavior Team recommends that Faith be placed in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body relaxed. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, ears and body neutral, closed mouth Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, unresponsive to touch. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs toy. Dog to Dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Faith offers defensive correction when approached, and remains uncomfortable throughout the interaction.
08/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Faith offers defensive correction when approached, and remains uncomfortable throughout the interaction. Faith arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how her behavior will translate outside the care center. The behavior team feels that Faith would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a new home, before following up on her behavior around them outside the care center environment.
