I am an unaltered female, chocolate and red Chihuahua – Smooth Coated.
The shelter staff think I am about 2 years old.
I was found in NY 10462.
I have been at the shelter since Mar 10, 2016.

S/O: dog presented in lateral recumbancy, heavy panting, rectal temp over 107 F, limbs very stiff, heart rate 160, lactating mammary glands, teeth have minimal dental tartar build up (appears young), mm’s pinl and moist CRT 1-2 sec, femoral pulses S+S, eyes clear OU, no CIRDC signs, lungs clear, no murmur ausculted
A: eclampsia
total Ca: 3.9 (severely low)
phos: 0.9 (severely low)
ALP 273
borderline anemia (PCV 36%)
stress leukogram (mildly elevated neutrophils, low eosinophils)
P: gave 2.5 ml calcium gluconate diluted 1:1 with LRS IV over ~10 min
placed IVC and ran CBC/chem
cooling – ice packs and alcohol bath
start LRS @ 20 ml/hr (2Xmaint) — wean down tonight
give second dose of calcium gluconate (2.5 ml diluted 1:1) over 10 min once IVC placed and IVF running
give 2.5 ml calcium gluconate IV slowly BID (DVM to do) to prevent relapse
start oral calcium supplementation once eating
recommend new hope placement ASAP
prognosis: good
vaccinate once stable
