07/17/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/17/16 17:55 Eva is a young female dog, possibly a Cane Corso / Boxer mix. She was found roaming outside by an adult and 2 older children. Her finders report that she was shy with them at first but allowed them to put a collar and leash on her, put her in their truck, and drive her here. They report that she was well-behaved while walking but barked at people on the street from the truck. Eva was standing up and leaning into his finder’s lap. She was tolerant as he repeatedly pushed her off. Eva had a slightly crouched body and low head. She sniffed me and took a treat from me gently. She retreated as I scanned her (-). She became stiff and barked (growly) and lunged at me when I got up from my chair. Her finder held her leash. She barked at me a few more times but then her body became less stiff and she took treats from me again. Her finder switched her leashes. She walked with me and sat on the backdrop. She tilted her head during a few pictures and then began barking. She barked (growly) at new people who entered the room, but didn’t lunge again. She took treats from them and walked with them.
07/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The huge and mesmerizing golden Cane Corso eyes are the first thing one sees looking at Eva…Not that the rest of her is not worth noticing… Her thin and spindly body wrapped in a shiny dark brindle dress. Her cute underbite. Her tiny stump of a tail and her flapping ears..Eva almost looks unreal…She is just a puppy, though… Shy in her kennel(Eva is hesitant to be leashed), very timid(although not aggressive) with her peers but a happy little gal when she feels good with you, which does not take very long… She is craving for treats and caresses and has quite a playful and friendly nature. Eva pulls on the leash which does not surprise me when a dog is a little stressed. She does not sit on command and wiggles a lot.She might not have been taught much by her former owners…Eva is only 9 month old, curious and scared at the same time, fed only scarcely until now and so hungry for food, love and attention. Glancing at her big paws, I can see that she still has a lot of growing to do and will be a big girl…Given a chance, Eva will bloom into a breathtaking beauty and a “good girl” too in caring, loving and experienced hands. Come and meet Eva at the Manhattan Care Center and make her yours.
07/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Eva walks with a low fearful body language on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Eva was also shy during handling, body language remained fearful. She becomes frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. Eva took the toy away but had soft body language. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can work with her behavioral needs. Eva is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler, Eva is easily startled by loud noise and sudden movement. We cannot be certain if any other behaviors may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that her behavior may change when Eva is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit. Dog may be crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Eva runs away from approach.
07/18/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Eva has been mostly uncomfortable with introduction to other dogs. The behavior team feels that Eva would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a home until her comfort around dogs can be followed up on outside the shelter. 7/18: When off leash with other dogs, Eva runs away from approach. 7/19: Eva avoids approach today. 7/20: Eva is nervous and tucks away from approach. 7/21: Eva sniffs, then keeps to herself.
