A Little Bit About Me…

A volunteer writes: Eugene is a gentle giant, tall and well dressed in his shiny ebony coat distract  only but his bright copper eyes and greying muzzle. Somehow, I seem to remember him from before but I guess,  dogs like people can have a  look alike. Eugene is quiet in his kennel and comes calmly to his door when a caretaker shows him a leash. He is a great walker, does his business on the way, occasionally marking and is polite meeting other dogs . He is well mannered in playgroups with his peers and even tolerates pushy  behavior. He can of course sit on command, come when called and take treats from my hand  but he is also busy trying to situate himself in  this new world that is not  familiar to him…A bit hand shy at the beginning of our time together, soft mannered Eugene accepted my caresses and drew closer to me before I brought him back to his kennel.  Eugene is really handsome, well dressed(apart a little bold spot on his tail), well nourished, healthy appearing  and  is probably still looking at many good years ahead of him….hopefully in a wonderful home  and with a loving family. Eugene is waiting at the manhattan Care Center and dreaming  of a better life….

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 09/30/2016 from NY 10469, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

9/30/16 17:49 Basic information: James was brought in as a stray. The finder found him on the street, the finder placed James in a car and brought him to the shelter. No other information could be provided during intake. Intake Behavior: During intake James had was relaxed with soft body. James allowed to be scanned (negative), collared, pictured, and placed in a dog kennel.

A Volunteer writes : I always loved black Shepherds. I met one named Lord Jim about ten years ago at the care center that always remained locked in my heart and thoughts. His picture sits on my desk and James is just his replica…So, I had to meet him…James, a large dog is calm in his kennel although he is standing by his door. He is leashed easily and we are outside in no time. James is strong and pulls. He does mark his territory quite a bit as an intact male. He is absolutely not prey driven and meets other dogs properly as the cool cat he is. James is a handsome fellow, dressed in a lush pitch black coat. His eyes are lively, luminous and light up his face like a flame in the dark. He has some sores on his ears that do not appear to hurt and some missing hair on his tail. These imperfections do not stand in the way of James beauty and just need to be attended by a veterinarian. James can sit on command when he wants to and once acquainted to me, takes my treats gently, even leans on me for caresses. James really likes to be petted… By the end of our session together, James and I , i believe, were friends. He returned without objecting to his kennel. Before leaving for home,  I went to see him. He was laying on his bed, still chewing the rawhide I gave him earlier… James needs a home and a master to love. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

Another Volunteer writes : From the moment he was brought to the adoption quarters, James made a lot of friends among volunteers  who were at first put off by his size and his intense look. I am still to find “faults” in this handsome gent beside the fact that he marks his territory, leaving an impeccably clean kennel. He is an outstanding walker, is responsive to his caretaker, respectful of other dogs and does not take you for a ride when he sees squirrels. True, he is 8 but I bet he owns great genes and has quite a number of healthy and productive years ahead of him. He will make an amazing friend, intelligent and loyal… Please, do stop at his kennel, ask to meet him and see how great James is..
