Some dogs catch your eye right away. Estrelita is my princess in rags…A beauty in disguise just waiting for a magic fairy to come and transform her into the royal canine she truly is… Estrelita was found as a stray. She is very thin, barely dressed, wears long nails and is worried looking… I thought at first that she was feral but she is not, not at all. She comes right away to her door, accepts a treat and a caress and is easy to rope. We aim for the street. Estrelita does not know what a leash is. She is trying, though to listen to my cues. She can sit on command and takes rather properly some roastbeef from my hand. She ignores other dogs on our walk and in playgroup with her peers, exits to a vacant pen, baffling a gorgeous young male… Her eyes are beautiful, amber in color, intense and so in contrast with her run down body…There is life in her , just waiting to burst and bloom in experienced and loving hands. She must have been someone’s pet at some point. She comes when I call her and settles by my side. Our eyes meet often. I can see the loyal friend Estrelita probably was and will be to the one master or family who will welcome her into their home. Estrelita is at the Manhattan Care Center, wishing upon a star…
