MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
10/04/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 1 – NORMAL , Behavior Rating is NH ONLY, Weight 39.6 LBS.
PLAYGROUP: According to Emma’s previous owner, Emma is extremely dog reactive. When Emma notices other dogs, she growls, tenses up and pulls on the leash to get away. It was reported that a few years ago Emma jumped over the gate and went after dogs. She has injured 2 dogs, biting them and sending them to the emergency room. The owner stated that on long walks she has to be muzzled (basket muzzle). 10/1: When off leash at the Care Center, Emma initially paces the perimeter of the pen. She avoids greeting the male dog. Once in the pen she begins to move towards him and silently lunges at him. The session was ended. 10/2: Emma was muzzled before being allowed to interact with the male helper dog due to her history. She approaches the gate with a tense and forward leaning posture but backs away after she sniffs the other dog through the gate. The handler held onto her leash loosely in order to have better control of her once she is allowed into the pen. As the gate is opened she steps in, greets the male dog briefly and as he turns away from her she growls and lunges onto his back wrapping her paws around him and muzzle punching him with the basket muzzle. The session is ended. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/2/16 During her initial medical exam Emma was wiggly and allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) (See potential challenges) _X_No cats (See Known history) _X_Single-pet home _X_Recommend no dog parks _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to the severity and intensity of Emma’s dog reactivity, the behavior department believes she would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue that can provide an experienced foster who can appropriately/safely manage this behavior before placement into a permanent home. Consultation with a professional veterinary behaviorist is highly recommended.) Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding (Emma has been observed to display signs of RG during her assessment; stiffen, froze over toy. It is advised against ever removing anything from Emma’s possession without trading for an item of equal or higher value when attempting to manage/modify this behavior.)
