A volunteer writes:

Emerald City sounds like the perfect place to me. Not only is it built with green glass and jewels, it’s filled with 6 month-old Emeralds! (Isn’t it?) Imagine an entire CITY filled with beautiful fawn-colored coats as soft as velvet, adorable paws too big for their body, and little pink tongues relentless in their mission of giving endless kisses. I can’t imagine anything better. I can’t imagine anything better than being surrounded by the silliest of faces. A face that would never understand the look of “sad, “mad,” or “down” and would meet every single one with yet another kiss! And don’t forget what that city would sound like! A place filled with excited and curious squeals, little grunts of happiness, and probably one or two “feed me!”s. Imagine what that city would be like. Or don’t! Instead throw on a coat, hop in a car, and head down the Yellow Brick Road. Happiness is waiting at the end. And so is Emerald.

SAFER

KNOWN HISTORY: N/A

Unaltered, Stray

SAFER ASSESSMENT:

Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, ears back, wagging tail.

Squeeze 1/2:  1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.

Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.

Summary: Emerald showed NO concern during the behavior assessment.

PLAYGROUP:

10/19: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Emerald approaches and greets politely, engages very briefly in play- however does become overwhelmed when solicited with exuberant play in larger groups.  The behavior department feels that Emerald would benefit from slow introductions with dogs in a future home.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/18/16

During his initial medical examination, Emerald readily allowed all handling without issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:

RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
