11/21/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/21/16 13:26 Elvis is a four year old Briard who has lived his entire life with his previous owners. Clients were surrendering him because he bit their father. Elvis was reported to bark a lot around strangers. Sometimes he will come up to them and allow for petting, and other times he will continue to bark until they leave. Elvis lived with 7 and 10 year old children. He was reported to be friendly around them and was very playful, but was reported to play a little too roughly with them. He likes to jump on them and nibble hands. Elvis has never lived with other dogs or cats. Elvis was reported to bark too much. He is potty trained and will only go to the bathroom outside. He Cries when he is left home alone. Elvis will growl if a bowl of food is taken away from him and will begin to play tug if someone tries to take away a toy or treat. Elvis will allow his previous owner to restrain him and give him a bath. He has had his nails trimmed at the vet. He barks excessively if someone knocks on the door. Elvis was reported to have a high to very high activity level. He loves to play tug. He usually sleeps on the floor in his previous owner’s bedroom. He eats a combination of wet and dry food once per day. He pulls very hard on his leash. Previous owner stated he has never been walked off leash and that he would not recommend trying to do so.

11/30/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Intact, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults/Children (ages 7 and 10) Behavior toward children: Elvis is reported to be friendly/playful though noted to play rough as he constantly jumped up at the them and would nip at their hands Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown FG/RG: Elvis will growl if a bowl of food is taken away from him Bite history: Owner was playing rough with Elvis and Elvis bit his arm leaving three bite wounds on his arm and one on his hand Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Elvis was reported to have a high to very high activity level. Other notes: Owner reports that Elvis will bark at strangers SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/30/16 Summary: Elvis has remained non-social/attention seeking and will actively avoid any form of human interaction. While he has displayed a high tolerance threshold, he will display all appropriate warning signals when any attempts to make direct contact are made and for this reason, we believe Elvis is not an appropriate candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time. Given his history, in conjunction with in shelter observations, Elvis may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue partner. PLAYGROUP: Elvis greets a male and female dog through a barrier. He has a neutral body, sniffs for a few seconds then walks away. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/22/16 During his initial medical examination, Elvis appeared tense though tolerated handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Elvis may benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess his behavior in a more stable environment after a given period of decompression to allow him to acclimate to new/unfamiliar surroundings) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression(See known history) _X_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition _X_Resource guarding (See known history; Elvis may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this guarding behavior. In addition to behavior modification protocol we recommend teaching Elvis “Drop It” and trade-up games.)
