02/19/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 2/16/17 Unaltered male, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Ellis had a tense body his tail tucked. When scanned Ellis had a tense body, he flinched when the scanner grazed his body and slowly turned his head. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 2/18/17 Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Ellis became stiff with whale eyes, and his tail above his spine. He became aroused as well, constantly grabbing the rope, and tugging, unable to readily recover. Ellis has allowed some handling in the care center but he is tense and avoids interaction with his new caretakers. He watches and tracks the humans around him carefully at all times. Due to the behaviors observed, and out of concern for his stress level, we do not feel it is appropriate to perform a handling assessment at this time. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Ellis was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ellis displays sexually motivated body language -standing tall with a high vibrating tail while whining- when greeting a novel female dog. He attempts to mount and displays stiff body language while chest bumping and muzzle punching her. He responds well to handler interruptions and explores the pen. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 2/17/17 Ellis allowed some handling though appeared uncomfortable with certain approach. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Ellis appears to easily aroused and becomes uncomfortable with up close handling, for these reasons we advise against a home with children at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: The behavior department recommends Ellis be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Due to the fear/avoidance behavior displayed in the care center, we cannot fully evaluate Ellis and feel that he will be best set up to succeed through placement with a New Hope partner. We recommend only positive reinforcement-based, force-free training for Solo as aversive methods are likely to heighten his fear and increase aggression.
02/17/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR

He attempts to mount and displays stiff body language while chest bumping and muzzle punching her. He responds well to handler interruptions and explores the pen. 2/18: When greeting a male dog, Ellis begins to stiffly bounce, stand tall, and muzzle punch the gate. Due to the uncomfortable body language the other male was displaying, they are not introduced. When off leash with a female dog, Ellis becomes immediately sexually motivated and mounts her.
