A volunteer writes: It doesn’t take much to look to the future and envision the gorgeous, playful and happy dog Ellie Darlin will be. But first, she needs to gain a lot of weight onto her emaciated frame, get comfortable and trust people again and build up some confidence. She’s weak from lack of food and bearing puppies, so I carried her out of her kennel and to a place on the sidewalk where we sit and cuddle. She curled up in my lap trembling, cold, fear or both? Her eyes are wide in her beautiful face as she tries to get comfortable in this new environment. She finally seemed ready for a short walk and she was a rock star! Ellie Darlin went potty right away, we walked slowly down the block and back and she was terrific….I was like a proud mama watching her baby take her first steps. I hope that whoever adopts this sweetest of little girls will send pictures and updates as we are all invested in her future. It’s impossible not to fall in love with her, mourn for her past and hope that her future will be as bright as it should be. She’s our ‘darlin’, and we’re rooting for her.
