A volunteer writes: A friendly, tail waggy, smiley little fellow, Elliot greets me at his door happy to be going out for a walk. He uses “the facilities” as soon as we’re out the door so may be housetrained, and although he pulls a bit on the leash it seems to be simple happiness at being outside. Stunning in his black and silver coat, his eyes sparkle with fun and friendship as he wags his tail at passersby. Off leash in the yard he shows off his sit, takes a treat gently and briefly plays with a plush toy. A bird flew into our pen to nibble on a left over treat, and Elliot kept his sit, just looking at the bird ignoring it completely. So cute! In my lap for some hugs, this bright eyed, bushy tailed fun, sweet fellow showed off his affectionate side. It’s no surprise that our behavior teams feels he’ll do well in a home with average dog experience. Stop by and meet Mr. Elliot today!
SAFER
Elliot came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are
unknown. He was friendly upon intake. Elliiot was sociable and
interactive upon entering SAFER assessment room. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, slight whine and shoulder rub, eyes averted. Elliot leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth, tail wag. He playfully engaged during Tag game, settled easily at end. Elliot did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He playfully engaged in a game of Fetch with Toy, body loose. When off leash with other dogs, Elliot engages in brief bouts of play. The Behavior Team feels Elliot would do well with an Average adopter and would make a lovely family pet.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, slight whine, shoulder rubbing. He
allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty,
soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, indicates play
with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc.
Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His
eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.
Toy 1: 1. Dog playfully engages, plays fetch, will relinquish toy to you.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Elliot engages in brief bouts of play
