12/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Eleanor appeared very sweet and allowed handling SAFER ASSESSMENT: Summary: Due her current medical condition/health status, Eleanor is not an appropriate candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time. The behavior department believes Eleanor would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue who can meet her needs medically and then assess behavior once she is in a stable environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Eleanor to new and unfamiliar situations. PLAYGROUP: 12/04/16 Eleanor greets a female dog on-leash with a neutral body, begins to wag her tail with extended sniff. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/4/16 During her initial medical exam Eleanor appeared nervous and growled when approached, but warmed up quickly and allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (The behavior department believes Eleanor would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue who can meet her needs medically and then assess behavior once she is in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Due to Eleanor’s medical issue she has been displaying defensive behavior, escalating to a snap when uncomfortable. We recommend allowing Eleanor to acclimate at her own pace and advise force-free, reward based training when introducing/exposing her to new and unfamiliar situations.)
