05/16/16 14:45 Basic Information: El Nino is an 11 year old maleToy Fox Terrier/Yorkshire Terrier mix that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had El Nino for a 8 years. Socialization: According to the owner, El Nino is fearful and aggressive around strangers. Once he is comfortable around adults, he will play gently. Owner has a baby at home and kept El Nino away from the baby as he can be unpredictable and bite. Owner did not have another dog or any cats in the home so she is not sure how El Nino would react around other animals. El Nino has bit several people in owners household but none were within the last 10 days. Behavior: El Nino is not bothered by having his food, toys and treats taken away, being pushed off the furniture or when unfamiliar people would approach owners home or backyard. When El Nino was given a bath, he would snap and bite. He is afraid of having his feet touched and would growl and snap if someone would do so. El Nino is afraid of having his coat brushed, and being held/restrained. aggression. For a New Family to Know: El Nino is described as fearful with a low activity level. In the home, he liked to stay in his favorite spot. El Nino is mostly house-trained but did have accidents a few times a month. When left alone in the home, El Nino was well behaved. Owner has never tried leaving him alone in the yard therefore behavior is unknown. For exercise, owner would take him on slow walks on the leash 3 times a day. Owner stated that El Nino pulls lightly on the leash. If he is taken off leash, he would keep his distance and is hard to catch. Owner has never tried to crate train El Nino so she is not sure how he would react. El Nino likes to play with balls, squeaky toys, chew toys and bones. Owner fed him both dry and wet food brand healthy bites and Cesars. El Nino also knows the command sit. Owner feels that El Nino would do best in an adult home.

El Nino came into our center as an owner surrender due to new baby in the home. According to the owner, El Nino is fearful and aggressive around strangers. Once he is comfortable around adults, he will play gently. Owner kept El Nino away from the baby as he can be unpredictable and bite. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner reports El Nino is not bothered by having his Food, Toys, Treats taken away. When El Nino was given a bath, owner reports he would snap and bite. He is afraid of having his feet touched and would growl and snap if someone would do so. El Nino is described as fearful with a low activity level. When left alone in the home, El Nino was well behaved. El Nino walked well on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. He tried to bite while attempting to collar him in the SAFER assessment area, therefore tactile portions of the assessment were skipped. El Nino showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports he likes to play with balls, squeaky toys, chew toys, and bones. El Nino approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, investigated and then turned away. Due to his various instances of attempting to bite, El Nino must be placed with a New Hope partner. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, sniffs, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, investigates and then turns away
