01/26/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: You don’t have to be a genius to see that Edison is the total package. Adorable? Check. Playful? Check, check. Secure enough in his masculinity even at such a young age to happily don pink doughnut pajamas for our walk? Check, check, check. See? All the essentials. Edison, with his petite, lithe frame and snowy, white coat immediately reminds me of a beautiful dove. However, as soon as we begin our trek to the park, I realize that looks might be a bit deceiving! While doves are the symbol of peace, Edison would be the symbol of PLAY! Yep this little dynamo is full of all the excitement that naturally accompanies youth and is bursting (sometimes literally) with a verified “joie de vivre.” Our little dynamo is a bit on the thin side, so naturally, treats are a favorite of his. He sits for them politely, with an occasional “woof!” sprinkled in, and takes them excitedly and largely gently from my hand. “Oh she is SO pretty! Is she available for adoption???” a passerby inquires. “Why yes, HE is!” I reply, causing a quick blush and apology. But Edison couldn’t be less offended. He’s busy launching a natural charm offensive that leads his admirer to say, “OK, I NEED to come and visit him and soon!” I’m not surprised. Everyone that meets Edison is bound to have that “lightbulb” moment. Will it next be you? Edison is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.

Most of his activity was directed at getting closer to or the assessor. He jumped up on and mouthed the assessor repeatedly out of excitement. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: 1/24: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Edison approaches and politely sniffs calm dogs. He offers correction when uncomfortable with play solicitation. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/22/17 During his initial medical exam, Edison allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Edison so we cannot be certain of his/her behavior in a home environment. Edison displayed high energy and movement throughout assessment. He will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his/her energy and enthusiasm.
01/24/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Edison is uncomfortable with play and will often vocalize and attempt to mount while interacting in a large group. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends not placing Edison into a home with other dogs at this time until his behaviors can be followed upon. 1/24: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Edison approaches and politely sniffs calm dogs. He offers correction when uncomfortable with play solicitation. 1/25: Edison follows and attempts to mount other dogs persistently. 1/26: Edison engages in play with a female dog, though becomes tense and vocal if play intensifies. 1/27-28: Edison greets a calm female politely and may chase her around the pen, but he will otherwise keep to himself.
