08/12/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/12/16 08:35 Echo is a 5 year old lab/rottie mix. She has no known health problems or injuries. When Echo see unfamiliar people outside her home she will growl, lunge, and snap at them. When unfamiliar people come to her home, she will be tense. The owner will tell her “they ok” and Echo will leave the person alone and lay in her corner of the home. For After the unfamiliar person is in the home for some time. Echo will tolerant the person to pet her but will be alert and slightly tense. The more times an unfamiliar person enters the home, the more relax Echo will become around them. Echo lived with an adult and with 12 and 14 year old children. She was often dogsat by a family that had three adults in the home. She was playful and relaxed around the family that dogsat her. This family also had a small dog that lived with them and several cats. Echo knew her size when playing with the small dog and was always gentle. The cats would often be found sleeping on top of Echo. When Echo became familiar with dogs in the neighborhood she would play and go on walks with them but at first she would bark and growl. Echo is tolerant of the family dogsitting removed her dog food, bones, treats, and toys. She is also very house trained.
08/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Echo is more like a social caterpillar than a social butterfly. She can be unsure of new people and new dogs and needs time for them to be not “new” anymore. She is infinitely more beautiful than my lacking photography skills could capture — really a big, stunning, majestic girl!! The first time I met her I had to coax her out of her cage, but the good news is she is very treat motivated (so much so that she will take them from strangers). She showed me that she knows “sit” and “paw,” but shied away when I tried to pet her. After a few more walks together Echo has really warmed up and is SUCH a sweetheart. She wiggles her nubby tail feverishly when I approach her cage and easily comes out. She walks beautifully on leash and seems housetrained (though until recently she was too afraid to make herself vulnerable and “go” outside with me). She’ll lick my hands, solicit petting, and make soft eye contact. We’re told she was playful with dogs in the neighborhood once she knew them, spent time with a small dog and was very aware of her size when interacting with him, and, like something out of a Disney movie, would let cats sleep on top of her! Echo will need a slow approach and someone to help show her new doesn’t always have to be scary, but I think she is more than worth it: she seems like such a gentle, sensitive, sweet, SWEET girl that will form a very strong bond with her person. Your house could be like the cocoon from which she emerges with wings!
08/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Echo is a five year old mixed breed with no known health problems or injuries; she was surrendered to our care centers when her owner abandoned her at a friend’s house. It has been reported that when Echo sees unfamiliar people outside of her home she will growl, lunge and snap. Upon entrance of the home, she will remain tense until the owner will give her the “OK” to lie down and leave the person alone. Once she is used to someone, she will tolerate the person but remain tense. Echo lived with smaller dog and several cats at once point and was always gentle when playing with the dog and oftentimes had that cats sleeping on top of her. It was reported by her caretaker that she would go on walks and play with neighborhood dogs; though upon initial meet she would bark and growl. Throughout her stay in the care center, Echo has remained quite shut down and will tolerate very minimal handling. Upon approaching her kennel, Echo makes no eye contact with her handler, body low and tense. Echo has been uncomfortable throughout her entire stay at the care center and becomes nervous when any attempts to engage are made; her immediate response is to flee. The behavior department feels Echo would be benefit best from placement with a New Hope placement partner who can provide an experienced foster home. It is recommended Echo be given an appropriate period of decompression to help her acclimate to her new surroundings. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Echo to new and unfamiliar situations.
08/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Echo’s previous owner stated, Echo gently played with a small dog at a friend’s house. 8/12: When off leash in the care center, Echo approaches the gate with stiff posture and lip licks. The other dog’s leash is held to allow Echo the chance to approach. She briefly sniffs the other dog but becomes uncomfortable when he exchanges sniff. Her body tenses up and her eyes become wide. 8/17: Echo slowly approaches the gate with a tense face and body. Both her and the greeter’s leash are held when the pen door opens. When approached by the other dog, she begins to lick lip, tense up and give very settle lip curls. When she moves to another pen, she keeps her distances avoiding any further interactions.
