A volunteer writes:
It is not often that we see Pekineses dressed  in such vibrant chesnut colors. Dutchie relinquished into our care as his owners were going through hard times,  wears such a beautiful coat, although quite matted…He is only five and appears in good health. Dutchie is leashed easily and walks rather well . He appears housetrained(his masters confirm this) and nears politely other dogs. He participated in a playgroup with his peers  and was civil to all.  He looks pretty lost, accepts my caresses, soft treats but  warns(just with a look) me not to wander my hand toward his little feet. Dutchie lived mainly with adults and a few cats that he respected. He does not seem to have been much socialized to the outside world and one can imagine what a rude awakening it is for him to find himself in a large city shelter… No wonder that he acts a bit grumpy and scared…  Dutchie  would probably do best with a connoisseur of the breed and a person who will slowly and gently open new horizons for him. Dutchie is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping to soon find his place on your lap…

If you are local to the Tri-State, New England, and the general Northeast United States area, and you are SERIOUS about adopting or fostering one of the animals at NYC ACC, please read our MUST READ section for instructions, or email helpdogs@urgentpodr.org. Our experienced volunteers will do their best to guide you through the process.

* We highly discourage everyone from trusting strangers that send them Facebook messages, offering help, for it has ended in truly tragic events.*
