Dutchess is a shy gal. She has the sweetest and gentlest smile, beautiful button eyes and such a calm demeanor. A girly Teddy Bear… She looks so naive, a real good girl I truly want to meet….. I like Dutchess. She is a chunky and very furry mama who has proven to be for so many years a very good family dog. She is described as fond of children, a bit timid with strangers, affectionate, playful, housetrained, a great walker, loving baths and brushing and free of any handling issues. Dutchess, relinquished into our care as her owner had personal problems, is a little lost here at the care center..She is obedient, goes with the flow. No question asked…. She lays quietly on her blanket and comes to her door to be leashed. She walks beautifully by my side, not forgetting to do her business on the way. Her kennel is clean and orderly. Free in a pen, she shows a healthy interest in other dogs playing in adjacent pens. She comes when I call her and accepts caresses as well as treats that she takes politely from my hand. She seems to be “elsewhere”, probably baffled at her new surroundings and missing her prior life. She gets”attached” quickly, though and squeezes her big body against mine for more bonding and comfort. Dutchess is a very likable middle aged gal, a family dog who will bloom again in loving hands and be the loyal, gentle and fun friend we all dream to have by our sides. Dutchess is at the Manhattan Care Center.
Another volunteer writes: A bundle of fluff is quietly resting on her bed, getting up slowly as I unlatch her door. Dutchess is easily leashed and out we go. Her highness goes potty the moment we’re outside and we enjoyed a slow and easy walk around the block. Off leash in the yard she explores our pen and walks over to greet a large male dog in an adjoining pen with a soft and easy tail wag. We’re told that Dutchess is shy with strangers and as we’re all strangers she’s doing a remarkable job of making friends. She’s lovely, she’s sweet and gentle and in need of a new kingdom (family) to take care of.
PROFILE:
Dutchess is an 8 yr. old Lab Germ Shepherd mix. The Owner got her from North Shore Animal League; she has owned Dutchess for over 6 yrs. The owner surrendered Dutchess because the owner because of personal problems. Behavior:
The owner stats that Dutchess is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while she is eating, when someone takes her toys away or when someone disturbs her while sleeping. Dutchess likes to be brushed and given bathes but has never had her nails trimmed. The owner says that Dutchess is scared loud noises such as storms or fireworks and will often run and hide from the noise.
For a new family to know:
