His behavior is unknown towards others. He loves bath time and being brushed. He hasn’t had his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member he will bark. For A New Family to Know: Dutch is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a high activity level. The owner likes how friendly & playful he is. He enjoys playing with a rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He is mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on in his dog bed. He eats dry dog food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. 08/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dutch is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He was tense during the look item, with fearful body language. Dutch shows some concerning behavior during sensitivity turning quickly trying to bite the assessors hand. The behavior decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Dutch was not interested in toys. Dutch was surrender to us. According to his previous owner around strangers, Dutch will bark and lunge. He has been around children and plays exuberantly with them. He is not friendly with other dogs and cats and he has bitten unfamiliar family members in the past. The owner stated that Dutch is not too friendly now that he has been getting older. He does not allow strangers to approach the owner, only his 2 sons and ex-wife. Dutch will only allow the owner to take his bowl away”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Dutch displays nervous body language (tail tucked, tense, low to ground) in the yard. He becomes ‘whale eyed’ and attempts to back away from approach. When the greeter dog approaches again, he lip curls. The behavior team feels that Dutch may be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a home at this time. Dutch’s former owner states that he is ‘not friendly’ with other dogs, however no further detail is provided.
