09/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/04/16 11:26 Duncan was fearful. He would crouch down and stop walking when we walked through door ways. He allowed me to pet him but would flinch , he showed whale eye and had a tucked tail. When he saw another dog he would attempt to approach and wag his tail and his ears would perk up. He showed no signs of aggression.
09/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I was told how gorgeous Duncan is prior to meeting him, but wow, I wasn’t expecting breathtaking magnificence! His brindle coat shines with good care, his weight is perfect for his size, and is soft, expressive face turned me into putty. Found as a stray, the noise and activity of a busy shelter is making him a bit nervous as I write this, and he carefully explores his options before making any move. He stepped gingerly out of his kennel, walked softly through the hall and then stopped at the door to outside not quite sure what to expect on the other side. His face is so expressive it was like I could see the wheels turning as he thought it through. The need to go potty finally won out (and some treats) and we’re through the door. Gentle on leash, tentative as we walk, he seems to love small dogs greeting all with a soft wave of his tail. Off leash he comes when called, snuggles briefly, wags his tail when I talk to him and is getting ready to officially name me a friend. It’s clear Duncan was a beloved companion, and I promise him that he will be so again. Won’t you help make my promise to him come true? A volunteer updates: Go ahead and ask me how proud I am of this gorgeous boy! Out and about on walks, his tail wagging, his posture no longer fearful, Duncan has found his rhythm. He’s so amazingly handsome I catch my breath each time I see him, and his new found ease makes me smile. Another volunteer tells me how terrific he is and I can’t agree more! Duncan did well on an off leash play date and may enjoy a home with a canine sibling. Don’t miss the chance to meet our Duncan.
09/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Duncan pulls a bit on the leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Duncan was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys Duncan did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Duncan engages in play when solciited, with intent to mount when play slows down. The behavior team feels that Duncan could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction. Duncan arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how his behavior will translate into a home setting.
