DUKE aka SCOOBY aka SCOOBIE DOO – A0873392
Safe - 4-18-2015 Brooklyn
**SAFE 04/18/15**
Meet Duke, a delightful, slightly older dog who’s been hanging out in the Brooklyn ACC ever since his owner and he were evicted from their home. It’s funny cuz some dogs go through the shelter system with nary a glance of attention. Then there’s Duke. We have no idea what the powers that be thought Duke was harboring but they examined him every which way and once more for good measure. They had Duke in their version of the interrogation room for quite awhile. As it turns out, Duke is an average sized pit bull mix of older, middle years. The only oddity that could be established about Duke is really quite a common condition, namely that he shows barrier-aggression or frustration toward dogs who he can’t reach. Actually, when Duke can make contact with the stranger dog, he behaves quite appropriately. You’ll need to come to the shelter to meet Duke for yourself. Oh, Duke also has kennel cough – no biggie. So, wonderful Duke is adoptable to any good family experienced in handling dogs. Could Duke’s new family be yours? You’d be saving his life and enriching your own.

04/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Duke came into the Care Center with limited information, so his past behavior in a home is unknown. During SAFER Duke was very sociable towards the assessor and greeted with a loose body posture and a tail wag. He was relaxed for all handling items, and was playful during the tag interaction. Duke only showed minimal interest in the food and rawhides, and was easy to handle when engaged with the toy item. Although Duke is very sociable towards other dogs when playing off leash, He has been reported to show potential barrier reactivity behaviors; barking in a frustrating manner when walking by other dogs in their kennel and can be difficult to manage at times, so an experienced adopter is recommended. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog licks, then turns away. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When greeting off leash dogs, Duke is social and friendly with other dogs but expresses not interest in play.
03/05/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When greeting off leash dogs, Duke is anxious and nipping at the gate. At this time, there are no appropiate females to try off leash with Duke. 3/22 Update Very friendly at the gate, polite wagging tail while greeting. Runs in eager to play with loose body and wagging tail. He engages in a bit of running play. 3/24 Update Does well with 2 females and has a wagging tail. He is not interested in interacting but tolerant when greeted. 3/29 Update Duke continues to do well with both males and females and is friendly and will greet with a wagging tail. He appropriately corrects a foward dog when she places her paw across his shoulders. 3/30 Update Duke enjoys some running play with a friendly, playful female 4/1 Update Duke is tolerant and does well with females in the yard. He can be a little too eager when greeting another dog but once allowed time to calm down he ignores her and continues to wander the yard. He reacts with hard barks at the gate when a new female is to enter the yard. 4/1 Update Duke enjoys being in the presence of other dogs off leash but exhibits some barrier reactivity when another dog will come outside. He will bark at the gate but when separated calms down and is tolerant and respectful when reintroduced with the dog he barked at. 4/5 Update Duke continues to enjoy time outside with other dogs but is not interested in play. 4/6 Update Duke does not solicit play, he enjoys being outside and is tolerant of other dogs. 4/7, 4/8 Update Duke is friendly, social and tolerant while off leash with other dogs. 4/9 Update Duke continues to be social and friendly with other dogs but expresses not interest in play. 4/10,4/11, 4/12 Update Duke continues to be social, tolerant and friendly with other dogs and is polite and respectful 4/13 Update Duke continues to be friendly and tolerant with other dogs in the yard. 4/14 Update Duke continues to be generally respectful and tolerant with other dogs.
